This study estimates the cost of electrifying all households in 40 Sub-Saharan African countries by 2030 using the OnSSET electrification model. The model considers grid extension, mini-grids, and standalone solar systems, finding that off-grid solutions significantly reduce costs in remote areas. Average least-cost electrification at Tier 3 (approximately 365 kWh/household/year) is estimated at 14c USD/kWh or 7c USD per person per day. However, costs are sensitive to demand assumptions, and significant cost variations exist within and between countries. The study emphasizes the importance of country-specific approaches and electrification cost curves for effective policymaking.
