Abstract
This systematic review and meta-analysis investigated the associations of vegan and vegetarian diets with circulating inflammatory biomarkers compared to omnivores. 21 cross-sectional studies showed vegan diets were associated with lower C-reactive protein (CRP) levels. This association was less pronounced in vegetarians, but stronger in vegetarians with impaired kidney function. No significant effects were found for other biomarkers, though many were investigated in only single studies.
