Abstract
This paper maps 0.6 billion farmland trees in India and tracks them over the past decade, revealing a severe decline of approximately 11% of large trees (crown size >96 m²) between 2010/2011 and 2018, and a further loss of over 5 million large trees (crown size >67 m²) between 2018 and 2022. This decline is attributed primarily to altered cultivation practices, where trees are seen as detrimental to crop yields, highlighting a concerning trend given the importance of agroforestry in climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies.
