This study investigates the United States' potential for seafood self-reliance, analyzing production, utilization, yield, and consumption data from 1970-2021 across seven regions. While the US is a major seafood importer, the study finds national-level self-reliance is achievable, although regional capacity varies. Achieving greater independence requires shifts in consumer behavior, infrastructure investment, and climate change adaptation.
