This study investigates the impact of Superfund sites on life expectancy (LE) in the United States at the census tract level. Geocoded statistical modeling revealed a significant reduction in LE in tracts with at least one Superfund site compared to neighboring tracts without sites. This negative effect is amplified in tracts with high sociodemographic disadvantage and is further influenced by site characteristics such as flooding potential and lack of cleanup strategies. The study highlights the vulnerability of socioeconomically disadvantaged populations to the adverse health effects of Superfund sites.
