This paper explores the potential impact of generative AI on scientific practices across various disciplines. Twenty scientists from diverse fields were interviewed to understand how generative AI could enhance research, education, and communication of scientific findings. The study identifies potential benefits such as novel educational paradigms, AI-supported literature reviews, accelerated data processing, AI-assisted coding, and enhanced writing and peer-review systems. Concerns regarding AI-aided cheating, bias introduction, factuality issues, and the proliferation of misinformation are also discussed. The findings aim to guide the responsible development of AI tools for scientific use.
