This paper introduces the MOS model, a simplified model designed to quantify the impact of a reactive diffusive environment on the alteration of vitrified nuclear waste packages in deep geological disposal. The model focuses on silicon consumption by iron, corrosion products, and argillite, and the diffusional transport limitations of silicon through surrounding materials. It bridges the gap between simpler operational models and more complex geochemical transport models, offering a balance between ease of use and accuracy.
