Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between gray matter (GM) volume in reward-related brain areas and physical activity (PA) levels in young adults, using both objective (accelerometer) and subjective (questionnaire) measures. Results show that a smaller right anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) volume and lower reward sensitivity scores were associated with lower daily PA. The right ACC volume correlated positively with self-reported total PA. The study highlights the importance of objective PA measures and the role of ACC volume and personality in promoting rewarding activities.
