Abstract
This study uses nationwide health records and genealogies from Denmark and Sweden (n=17 million) to investigate the genetic and environmental contributions to the comorbidity between six mental disorders and 15 cardiometabolic disorders. Genetic factors contributed about 50% to the comorbidity of schizophrenia, affective disorders, and autism spectrum disorder with cardiometabolic disorders, while environmental factors were the main driver for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder and anorexia nervosa comorbidity with cardiometabolic disorders. The findings provide causal insights to guide clinical and scientific initiatives.
