This study investigates the focus and implications of master's degree theses by pre-service geography teachers from Chinese normal universities. Bibliometric and comparative analyses of theses from 2016 to 2022 reveal variations in research emphasis based on university subject assessment levels. Theses are characterized by microscopic scale and insufficient depth compared to international and domestic research. A three-pronged collaborative framework is proposed to enhance the quality of pre-service geography teachers, involving stronger interactions among tutors and learners, university-secondary school partnerships, and inter-university cooperation.
