Abstract
Millions of households in Europe struggle to afford energy and transportation, and recent high fuel prices have exacerbated the problem. This paper examines the drivers and lived experiences of energy and transport poverty in the UK through public focus groups and expert interviews. It identifies four key policy recommendations with high public and expert support: mandatory landlord energy efficiency upgrades, increased financial assistance to households, cheaper or free bus and train fares, and expanded bus services. The paper also suggests further energy and transport system redesign to better meet principles of energy and social justice.
