Abstract
Advanced light management techniques can enhance the sunlight absorption of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). This paper proposes a checkerboard (CB) tile pattern with UV photon conversion capability to increase photocurrent and power conversion efficiency in ultrathin PSCs. A luminescent down-shifting encapsulant converts UV irradiation into visible photons, improving efficiency and protecting against UV degradation. Experimental results show at least 94% UV conversion into the visible spectrum, with a combined light trapping and down-shifting approach improving both performance and stability, especially relevant for space applications under AMO illumination.
