Abstract

This letter to the editor examines persistent racial disparities in access to mental healthcare between Non-Hispanic Black (NHB) and Non-Hispanic White (NHW) adults during the COVID-19 pandemic. Analyzing data from the Household Pulse Survey, the authors find that NHBs consistently had a significantly higher rate of unmet mental healthcare needs compared to NHWs. The study highlights the urgent need for public health interventions targeting increased access, improved quality, and reduced cost of mental health services, along with addressing social determinants of poor mental health in NHB communities.
