This paper explores the popular prejudices faced by ancient and modern astronomers. It examines Thales of Miletus through ancient texts and NASA's funding history, public opinion, and spinoff reports. The findings suggest that NASA's efforts to justify its existence through practical outcomes mirror the experience of ancient natural philosophers who were perceived as lacking practical significance.
