Abstract
This study investigates non-coresidential intergenerational relationships in China using data from the 2017 China General Social Survey (CGSS). Latent profile analysis, based on the five dimensions of intergenerational solidarity theory, reveals five distinct relationship profiles: distant-emotional, proximity-detached, proximity-loose, distant-support, and traditional-reciprocal. Multiple regression analysis identifies significant effects of gender, education, income, happiness, and health on these profiles. The study highlights the need for increased attention to families where older parents live separately from their adult children through relevant legislation, social welfare systems, and social older-care services.
