Abstract
This study investigates the impact of algorithmic management on employee creative and adaptive performance. Using the ability-motivation-opportunity (AMO) theory, a moderated mediation model was developed and tested with data from 327 employees in a Chinese information technology service firm. Results reveal a negative impact of algorithmic management on creative and adaptive performance, mediated by improvisation capability. Algorithmic dependence amplifies this negative impact. The study contributes to understanding the complex interplay between algorithmic management and employee performance.
