Sand and Dust Storms (SDS) pose significant health risks globally. This nationwide multicenter time-series study in China (2013-2018) analyzed 1,495,724 deaths and 2024 SDS events across 214 counties. Increased mortality risks were associated with SDS for various causes, with the highest risks observed for respiratory diseases (8.90%). Significant added effects of SDS were found for ischemic stroke, chronic lower respiratory disease, and COPD mortality, even after adjusting for PM2.5 and PM2.5-10. The study highlights the need for public health policies to mitigate SDS impacts.
