Abstract
This study investigates how media shapes audience perception of unconventional security issues, using the portrayal of Confucius Institutes in US media as a case study. Analyzing coverage in *The New York Times* and *The Wall Street Journal* (2004-2022), it examines how language constructs narratives and influences audience cognition within the securitization of Confucius Institutes. Findings reveal a bottom-up securitizing move, where media interacts with socio-political value positions, shaping public emotive perception through dialogically patterned linguistic configurations.
