MDMA robustly enhances empathy-like behaviors in mice—boosting the social transfer of pain and analgesia via serotonin (5-HT) signaling in the nucleus accumbens; optogenetic 5-HT release reproduces these effects, and systemic MDMA or NAc 5-HT stimulation rescues empathy deficits in Shank3-deficient autism-model mice.
