Location and Type of Crimes in The Philippines: Insights for Crime Prevention and Management

This study examined the association between crime location and type in the Philippines, analyzing the impact of COVID-19 lockdowns on crime incidence and patterns. Using data from the Philippine Statistics Authority, the study compared crime rates before and during the pandemic, focusing on index crimes (crimes against persons and property). Chi-square tests and correlation plots revealed significant associations between location and crime type, both before and during the pandemic. The findings suggest that government efforts to combat crime, coupled with pandemic-related lockdowns, led to a decline in crime, but also highlighted the increase in rape cases during lockdowns. The study recommends increased police presence in densely populated areas and targeted interventions to address sexual violence.
