The ESSENCE on Health Research initiative's Working Group on Review of Investments aims to improve coordination among health research capacity strengthening funders. Using metrics for national health research capacity, assessments of coordination models, and country-level analyses, the group seeks to increase research on national health priorities and pandemic preparedness. This article summarizes a meeting's findings, emphasizing a data-driven approach to strengthening health research capacity, including coordination among funders, local leadership, and equitable resource allocation.
