Abstract
Fungi that produce mycotoxins in feed fall broadly into two groups: field fungi, which invade before harvest, and storage fungi, which occur only after harvest. Mycotoxins are polyketone compounds produced under specific physical, chemical and biological conditions during fatty acid biosynthesis by moulds; these fatty acids serve primarily as energy metabolites for moulds. This review covers the impact of different mycotoxins on dairy animals and poultry.
