Abstract
This study investigates the impact of social capital on consumer participation in food safety governance in China. Using data from 1229 online food consumers, the study finds that social capital reduces free-riding and encourages participation through information sharing and direct supply of safe food. The findings offer insights for promoting consumer participation in food safety governance in developing countries.
