Abstract
This study investigates how participants meet daily step goals using 24-hour step data from the National Steps Challenge™ Season 3. A two-part model was used to analyze hourly step counts, considering previous hour's step count and participant demographics. Results show older adults (≥60) had higher hourly step counts on weekdays until 6 PM. Achieving at least 7000 steps by 7 PM was associated with higher success in reaching the 10,000-step goal. The study provides hourly step target recommendations based on participant characteristics and suggests future research on the effectiveness of timely prompts and nudges.
