This study demonstrates single crystal homoepitaxy of a metal-organic framework (MOF) built of zinc, acetate, and terephthalate ions, encapsulating octahedral zinc dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) complex cations within its 1D channels. The charge-transfer MOF grows stepwise to centimeter-scale square cuboids due to host-guest electrostatic attraction. This scalable epitaxy, with no apparent size limits, is attributed to the ionic nature of the anionic framework and cationic 1D molecular fillers, opening avenues for bulk MOF crystal growth.
