Abstract

This study uses satellite remote sensing data and spatial econometric methods to assess the impact of 223 high-speed rail new towns in China (2011-2021) on urban sustainable development. The results show a reduction in development disparities among these towns and a positive contribution to urban sustainability, particularly for centrally located new towns. Policy implications for China and other countries are discussed.
