Abstract
This study investigates the functional diversity of sharks and rays globally using multiple metrics, comparing them to other biodiversity facets. Threatened species disproportionately contribute to functional diversity, with unique hotspots identified, particularly around oceanic islands and high seas. Much of this diversity remains unprotected by MPAs.
