Abstract
This paper explores a novel hourglass-shaped lattice metastructure, combining two oppositely oriented coaxial domes, for enhanced customizability and tailored dynamic response. Six new classes of metastructures are developed using solid shells, regular honeycomb lattices, and auxetic lattices. Numerical simulation, analytical modeling, 3D printing, and experimental testing evaluate their mechanics and nonlinear behavior. The study reveals lattice-dependent frequency response and damping, paving the way for hourglass-based oscillators in tunable metamaterials for broadband vibration suppression and wave attenuation.
