Abstract
This study explores linguistic features, ideological beliefs, and critical thinking in Chinese news comments using a sociocognitive approach within the framework of critical discourse analysis. Data was collected through sampling social media comments and conducting interviews with 19 college students. Key findings include the representation of personal and social opinions as ideological beliefs, the influence of critical thinking on the convergence or divergence of these beliefs, and the varying impact of news topics on critical thinking ability. A sociocognitive model is proposed to understand the interplay of linguistic forms, ideologies, and critical thinking.
