This before-after study examines the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on urban box gardening in Turku, Finland (2019-2021). The study finds that while the pandemic increased the importance of box gardening for many, contrary to expectations, gardeners reported fewer benefits. This suggests the pandemic's negative influence on well-being extended to urban gardening, highlighting the pandemic's long-term transformative effects on this social-ecological system.
