This study investigated the ethnic identity formation of Dagestani students in Moscow universities, focusing on the interplay between family values and the multi-ethnic university environment. The study aimed to determine the impact of family values on national identity and to identify any gender differences. 214 Dagestani students were compared to a multi-ethnic control group. The null hypothesis, suggesting no significant differences between genders in family values or ethnic identification between groups, was confirmed only for 4th and 5th-year students. Findings can inform strategies to address psychological challenges in multi-ethnic student groups and foster optimal personal development and ethnic identification.
