Abstract

This study projects, using an economic land-use model, that enhanced agricultural carbon sequestration offers substantial mitigation potential, comparable to afforestation by 2050. Carbon sequestration on agricultural land could provide significant additional revenue for farmers globally, reduce economy-wide mitigation costs, and increase GDP. Unlocking this potential necessitates highly efficient institutions and monitoring systems.
