Abstract
This study investigated the effects of a mixture of plant extracts from agrimonia, houttuynia, licorice, peony, and phellodendron (AHLPP) on human skin cells. The AHLPP mixture downregulated pro-inflammatory cytokines, upregulated procollagen peptide synthesis and barrier proteins (filaggrin and desmoplakin), and enhanced telomerase activity. γ-irradiation sterilization did not significantly affect the AHLPP's activity. Furthermore, AHLPP incorporated into a hydrogel showed similar skin-beneficial effects. These results suggest AHLPP, with or without γ-irradiation, has potential as a skin protection agent.
