J. Benjamin-chung, A. Mertens, et al.

This study delves into growth faltering in early childhood across 32 cohorts from low- and middle-income countries, unveiling alarming stunting trends, particularly in South Asia. Researchers, including Jade Benjamin-Chung and Andrew Mertens, highlight critical periods for intervention, emphasizing the need to support women of childbearing age and infants.

Abstract
This study analyzed longitudinal data from 32 cohorts in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) to investigate the onset, reversal, and recurrence of linear growth faltering (stunting) in early childhood. The highest incidence of stunting onset occurred from birth to 3 months, with significantly higher rates in South Asia. Stunting reversal was infrequent, and relapse was common, particularly among children stunted at birth. These findings highlight the need for interventions targeting women of childbearing age and children under 6 months.
