Abstract
MDMA, a stimulant-like drug with empathogenic effects, increases feelings of connectedness. This study examined the effects of MDMA (100 mg vs. placebo; N = 18) and methamphetamine (MA; 20 mg vs. placebo; N = 19) on feelings of connectedness during dyadic conversations. Both MDMA and MA increased feelings of connection and oxytocin levels, but oxytocin correlated with closeness only after MDMA. This highlights a new dimension of MDMA's pro-social effects and surprisingly, a similar effect for MA.
