This study maps and characterizes flash‑flood‑prone areas in the 38,147 km² San Juan River basin using morphometric analysis, an inventory of active deposits, DEM‑derived thematic maps and Kernel density—finding a torrential basin with flow deposits concentrated on gentle slopes, mid‑slopes and east‑facing piedmonts, threatening infrastructure. Research conducted by Natalia Noemí Rios and Carla Ginesta Torcivia.

Abstract
Spatial Distribution And Evaluation Flash Floods Occurrence, San Juan River Basin, San Juan Province, Argentina. This work aims to determine, spatial distribution and characteristics of flash floods prone areas. This achieved through a regional morphometric analysis, flash flood active deposits inventory, thematic maps evaluation, derived from a Digital Elevation Model, and the Kernel density calculation. The San Juan river basin has 38147 km², encompassing almost all human activities in the province. Due to the regional nature of the study, it divided into four sub-basins to obtain detail. Based on the results, it is deduced that the basin has a torrential nature, and the terrain conditions would contribute to increasing the flow of the main rivers during intense precipitation events. Flow deposits are mainly established in relatively smooth terrains with slopes of up to 16°, mostly distributed in mid-slope and east-facing piedmont areas, as well as low-lying floodplain areas or flat areas. Constituting the same evidence of the effect on routes and infrastructures, directly and indirectly compromising human activities.
