Discretion and contextual influences on creative thinking

This study introduces a novel method to measure “discretion” as an individual's intentional engagement in the creative process—operationalized as decisions to express ideas across social contexts. Divergent thinking tasks framed as relaxed/playful versus pressured/work settings produced measurable differences, and discretion was related to openness to experience, education, and creative potential.
