Abstract
This study combines high-resolution vertical land motion and elevation datasets with projections of sea-level rise to quantify potential inundated areas in 32 major US coastal cities by 2050. Even with current coastal defenses, 1,006–1,389 km² of land, impacting 55,000–273,000 people and 31,000–171,000 properties, is threatened. Ignoring land subsidence leads to inaccurate projections. The study highlights the significant adaptation challenge facing US coastal cities.
