Abstract
This study examines the transformation of the Barcelos Rooster, a Portuguese emblem, in postcolonial Macau. It evolved from a local curiosity to a national symbol of Portugal, and then, after Macau's 1999 sovereignty transfer to China, into a symbol of Macau's postcolonial identity. The study explores the rooster's role as a transcultural object within postcolonial tourism and transculturalism frameworks, investigating how its adaptation reflects the interplay of power, identity, and culture in shaping collective identity.
