Abstract
This article challenges the traditional view of the Mac dynasty's relations with the Ming dynasty (1527-1541) as submissive and betraying national interests. By examining Vietnamese and Chinese sources, the author argues that the Mac dynasty's seemingly humble approach to border and territorial disputes was a strategic ploy to maintain peace and avoid war, while preserving its de facto independence.
