Two major earthquakes (Mw 7.8 and Mw 7.7) struck southeastern Türkiye on February 6, 2023, causing significant damage. Kinematic rupture models, derived from seismic and geodetic data using complex fault models, reveal that the larger event propagated bilaterally along the East Anatolian Fault Zone (EAFZ). The second event, 9 hours later, ruptured along a curved northern EAFZ strand. Coulomb Failure stress increase from the first event plausibly triggered the second.
