Abstract

This study examines variations in visual health communication practices between Germany and China during the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on metaphorical mapping and introducing the concept of "visual dataset fingerprints." Analysis of over 3700 digital visual media posts from eight social media platforms reveals differences in image use reflecting variations in how public opinion and attitudes toward COVID-19 policies were shaped across languages and cultures. The study offers a new research approach to global healthcare communication in social news media.
