This research presents a high-quality chromosome-scale assembly of the lablab genome, a drought-resilient legume, through an Africa-led collaboration. The study confirms two domestication events in lablab and examines genetic and phenotypic diversity within a comprehensive germplasm collection. The genomic data provide a valuable resource for lablab improvement, and the collaborative approach serves as a model for other researchers sequencing indigenous crops in low- and middle-income countries.
