Abstract
This study investigated the impact of intensive farming and global transportation on the evolution of *Salmonella enterica*, a zoonotic pathogen. Analyzing over 9,000 genomes from nine pig-enriched *S. enterica* populations, researchers found strong associations between the transmission of these salmonellae and the global pork trade, particularly from Europe and the United States. The study highlights the role of modern pig agriculture in driving the emergence, population expansions, antimicrobial resistance acquisition, and global dissemination of pig-enriched *Salmonella* populations.
