Breaking the stigma: the joint effort of the government, print media, and citizens toward transgender education equality (2018–2022)

This study investigates the combined efforts of the Pakistani government, print media, and citizens in combating the stigma surrounding transgender individuals and promoting education equality. Using a mixed-methods approach (qualitative content analysis of articles from three major Pakistani newspapers and a quantitative public opinion survey), the researchers assessed media coverage and public attitudes towards transgender education and equality from 2018 to 2022. The findings indicate increased media coverage post-2018, largely influenced by government policies like the Transgender Act of 2018. Public opinion surveys reveal a generally positive attitude toward transgender equality among university students, although views varied on specific issues. The study concludes that collaborative efforts are vital for creating a more inclusive society.
