This study explores the theme of silence in Maxine Hong Kingston's *The Woman Warrior* and Amy Tan's *The Kitchen God's Wife*, focusing on the conflicts hidden behind it: gender, race, and cultural conflicts between Chinese and American cultures. The paper argues that breaking silence and constructing intersubjectivity, using Jessica Benjamin's theory, is crucial for resolving these conflicts. Through analysis of the characters' silences, the paper demonstrates how acknowledging both self and other facilitates equal and successful communication.
