This prospective cohort study investigated differences in metabolic profile, body composition, physical capacity, and inflammation among patients hospitalized with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) caused by SARS-CoV-2, influenza, or bacteria. While no significant differences were found in metabolic profiles (glucose, HbA1c, adiponectin, lipids), body composition, or physical capacity across the groups, COVID-19 patients exhibited a heightened inflammatory response, characterized by increased levels of IFN-γ, IL-4, IL-5, IL-6, and IL-10 compared to influenza and bacterial CAP patients.
