Abstract
This study investigates the effectiveness of various non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) in controlling SARS-CoV-2 spread in Austrian schools. Using cluster tracing data and an agent-based epidemiological model, the researchers analyzed the impact of room ventilation, class size reduction, mask-wearing, vaccinations, and school entry testing. The results indicate that combinations of NPIs, along with vaccinations, are crucial for safe school reopening during sustained community transmission of the delta variant. The required number of NPIs varies depending on the school type (primary schools needing at least two, secondary schools at least three).
