This study investigated the antecedents and consequences of telework in Japan during the COVID-19 pandemic. Using a three-wave online survey, the researchers found that telework was more likely implemented in organizations with meritocratic systems. Implementation of telework showed no negative effects but increased independence, organizational commitment, and perceived hierarchy mutability.
