Abstract
This systematic review examines the protein transition, focusing on high-income countries. It analyzes definitions, challenges, and narratives surrounding this shift towards rebalancing protein intake from animal to alternative sources. Three narratives emerged: consumer-focused dietary changes, techno-centric development of new protein sources, and socio-technological system-level transitions. The review highlights the need for clearer definitions, linking solutions to challenges, and considering the scale and actors involved in achieving the protein transition.
